Actors Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala made headlines with their marriage, which took place on December 4 at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad. Before becoming a couple, they had been dating for over two years and kept their relationship secret. In a conversation with the New York Times, they shared insights about their journey together and how speaking the same language helped deepen their connection.
How did the couple first meet?
The couple first met at Chaitanya’s father, Nagarjuna Akkineni’s residence in 2018. She was invited by the senior actor who appreciated her performance in the 2018 film ‘Goodachari’. But they first interacted in 2022, a year after Chaitanya divorced his then-wife, Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Their conversation began when Dhulipala replied to Chaitanya’s Instagram story regarding a sushi place in Hyderabad. They soon started bonding because of their common native language, Telugu.
How does the love between the couple grow?
In an interview, Chaitanya said: “Just hearing that same texture and having that same warmth when you speak to someone — I think it just drew me closer so much faster.” He was born in Hyderabad but lived in Chennai for 20 years during his upbringing. As a result, his proficiency in the Telugu language was not as strong as he would have preferred. “I keep telling her to keep talking to me in Telugu so I can improve.” he added.
Chaitanya and Sobhita’s first date
The two actors first met on Instagram, where they commented on each other’s posts. After chatting for some time on the platform, he decided to visit Mumbai and took Sobhita out for lunch.
In an interview with the New York Times, she said: “That was the charming part. It was so old school in a way.” Furthermore, Chaitanya remarked, ” I am not a fan of texting. I am not a fan of communicating on social media.” A week later, they met again in Mumbai for a Prime Video event. “I was in a red dress, he was in a blue suit. And the rest is history,” she said.
The couple shared some heartwarming details about their first trip together, which occurred during the summer at Bandipur National Park in Karnataka. They enjoyed the company of Naga Chaitanya’s friends on this getaway. During their time together, they connected through fun activities like playing chess and decorating each other’s hands with mehendi designs. “He’s a doer, I’m a be-er. I’m the fluttering kite, and he’s the anchor. Our dissimilarities really kept us interested and curious about each other,” Sobhita added.
