‘Sitting at home, licking feet of PM Modi’: Navjot Sidhu attacks Amarinder Singh ahead of Punjab polls

Ahead of upcoming Assembly elections in Punjab, State Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has launched a scathing attack on former chief minister Amarinder Singh over his party’s alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Recalling his old remark, Siddhu launched a sharp attack on Captain saying that he’s now sitting at home and licking the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Captain (Amarinder Singh) said that doors have been closed for Sidhu, but see today…he is sitting at home and is licking the feet of Modi,” ANI quoted Sidhu as saying at a rally in Kapurthala on Sunday.

Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh earlier this year quit Congress after months of in-fighting with current PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and floated his own political party to contest the upcoming assembly polls in the state.

Amarinder and Sidhu had been at odds several times during his chief ministership in Punjab. However, it all came out in the open when Captain was asked to step down as the CM in September. It all started when Sidhu had resigned from the Punjab cabinet in July 2019 and was at loggerheads with then CM Amarinder Singh.

Afterward, the two leaders constantly traded barbs at each other with Singh even challenging cricketer-turned-politician Sidhu to contest against him in Patiala in the state polls. “We have reports that he had a meeting with AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. My doors are closed on him,” the former CM had said.

The elections will be held to elect 117 members of the Legislative Assembly in Punjab in the month of February or March 2022. However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to announce the schedule for the polls.
