The Birla family is one of the most prestigious families in the nation, due to its business ventures. Although, singer Ananya Birla gained her popularity by creating a niche for herself in the music industry, she did have her fair share of hurdles. She is the daughter to billionaire entrepreneur Kumar Mangalam Birla and Neerja Birla. Ananya proved her mettle with songs like  Meant To Be, Livin the Life, Hold On, Circles and Better. But did you know that she had to struggle to her way up to success?

During an exclusive interview with Times Now Digital, Ananya revealed that it was difficult for her to create her own name in the music industry, and not be called as Kumar Mangalam Birla’s daughter.

She said, “Initially, people wouldn’t accept me as I was privileged. I do not blame them. I have had a very long journey with myself. Doing English songs, as an Indian was a massive struggle. Many people said it is not possible. As a teenager, I always struggled, but I think for a couple of years I do not mind it at all. If I can make my identity and if not then also I am proud. My basic purpose is to make good music and that makes me happy”, she said.

On the work front, the Indian singer collaborated with legendary music composer AR Rahman, to release a cheer song for the Indian sports personalities bound for Tokyo Olympics.

Talking about the song Ananya said, “Many countries around the world have an anthem. I thought that we should have an anthem as well. When the Ministry called me, the first person I had thought of was AR sir and I thought it was a great idea. It was a tough year for an athlete and I can’t even imagine, the dates kept changing. AR sir kindly agreed and he said ya let us do it. That is how it started. The entire point of the cheer song is to hope that we are able to make our athletes proud like we are of them. A song we can all listen to and cheer”.

The video of the song showcases a family from 1996 to the present day, as they cheer for the Indian athletes across varied Olympic seasons. The video showcases archival footage of Abhinav Shukla, Leander Peas, Vijender Singh, Sakshi Malik, PV Sindhu, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore to name a few.
