The debate on nepotism is endless in the Indian film industry. Kamal Haasan’s elder daughter Shruti Haasan has made a name for herself across the South and Hindi film industry. The actress is known for speaking her mind out, does not like to mince with words.

In an exclusive interview with Times Now Digital, the actress spoke about the insider-outsider debate and on being Kamal Haasan’s daughter. She revealed that she has never asked her father to pull in favour.

“I have never asked my parents to pull in favour even once. When I left my dad’s house after my first movie, I never asked for anything. The financial pressure for independence was a great driving force for me. I am very proud of my journey. Even though I get the goodwill my parents have worked for I have not used the benefits rather. I have seen people who are the so-called outsiders, definitely get the benefit of knowing which camp to join, which person to impress. It does not mean they are not worthy but they are much better than me. I do not know if it applies to me. On paper, I look like an insider but I work and live as an outsider”, Shruti said.

The Luck actress further said that as she has not been a part of the camp, so she has not been able to choose the right thing to say to the director. “I have been misunderstood than understood. I have always felt like an outsider but right now that’s what I am used to. Somehow it has worked out. I appreciate and acknowledge the fact that the doors opened because of my surname. I never take that away. I would be the first person to tell you, was underqualified for my first job”, she remarked.

The actress further spoke about having an anxiety disorder. The star-heroine revealed that “I personally suffered from anxiety and was not being able to communicate it to myself. Therefore was not being able to be the best version of myself as a human being, artist and a woman. I felt I needed to take the step back and assess myself, in order to be a better professional and human being”.

The actress who has performed breath-taking stunts in the movie Luck also spoke about her fears. She said that she was very afraid of being alone, of financial independence being unsteady. She further added that she is proud to say that her personal journey is such that she has learned lessons, by facing her fears.
