Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray Expels 5 Rebel Leaders – Here’s Why

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray expelled five rebel leaders for doing anti-party activities. The action was taken by him after they failed to withdraw their nomination filed for November 20 Maharashtra assembly election.

 

Expelled Leaders BY Party Chief

The expelled leaders include Former MLA Rupesh Mhate, Wani district head Vishwas Nandekar, Chandrakant Ghugul, Sanjay Awari and Prasad Thackeray.  These leaders were expelled from the party by the party chief Uddhav Thackeray due to their anti-parties activities.

Mhate filed his nomination from Bhiwandi where Rais Shaikh is sitting MLA from Samajwadi Party.

On November 4 the majority of rebel candidates from Shiv Sena  (UBT) retraced their nomination. After withdrawal of Nomination a total of 4,140 candidates were left in fray 288 assembly seats.

From the Maha Vikas Aghadi, which comprises Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) And Sharad Pawar’s NCP 145 leaders had filed nominations, defying the command from party.

In Congress the rebels who withdrew their nomination were Nashik Central candidate Hemalata Patil, Byculla candidate Madhu Chavan and Nadurbar candidate Vishwanath Walvi.

Maratha Quota activist Manoj Jarange withdrew from the electoral race. He was on hunger strike, demanding reservation for community in jobs and education. Patil said that, “”The Maratha community will decide on its own whom to defeat and whom to elect.”

The faction led by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar joined hands with BJP to form Mahayuti. During the 2019, Maharashtra Assembly election, BJP won 105 seats; Shiv Sena got 56 and Congress 44. In 2014, BJP got 122 seats, Shiv Sena 63 and Congress 42.

In 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election if going to held on November 20 and counting for all the 288 constituencies will be on November 23.

Total 4,140 candidates are in field for 288 constituencies in Maharashtra for the election. Total 7,078 nominations were submitted this year, which was 5,543 in 2019. This year a total of 2,938 nominations were withdrawn before the deadline that is November 4.
