One of the most loved actresses in tinsel town, Shilpa Shetty often finds herself in the midst of controversies. Something similar happened over a decade ago when at an event in Rajasthan, Hollywood actor Richard Gere hugged and kissed Shilpa publically. Following the incident, a case of obscenity was filed against Shilpa in 2007.

Now, as per the latest update, Shilpa has been discharged by a metropolitan magistrate’s court in Mumbai from offences pertaining to obscenity based on a complaint filed against her.

Though the complaint was filed in Rajasthan, the case was transferred to the court in Ballard Pier in Mumbai following orders by the Supreme Court.

As per a report, the actress, through her lawyer Madhukar Dalvi, stated in the discharge plea that the accusation against her was that she had not protested when she was kissed by ‘co-accused’ Richard. The actress’ plea also said the sections she was booked under could not be applied against her.

According to Bar and Bench, the court said, “Not a single element of any of the alleged offence is being satisfied in the complaint. Moreover, none of the paper annexed with the final report discloses act of present accused so as to bring her within the purview of Section 34 of IPC (common intention).”

Meanwhile, after the incident took place, a complaint was filed before a Judicial Magistrate First Class in Mundawar, Rajasthan, seeking registration of FIR against Shilpa and Richard. The actress was booked under sections 292 (sale of obscene books), 293 (sale of obscene objects) and 294 (obscene acts and songs) of the Indian Penal Code, and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. The event that was attended by Shilpa was for AIDS awareness.

On the movie front, Shilpa made her Bollywood comeback with Hungama 2, which was released on an OTT platform. The movie was directed by Priyadarshan and jointly produced by Ratan Jain, Ganesh Jain, Chetan Jain and Armaan Ventures. It also starred  Paresh Rawal, Meezaan Jafri and Pranitha Subhash in key roles. Shilpa will be next seen in Nikamma.
