The Sheffield Shield final position for Queensland remains in doubt following their difficult draw against South Australia which potentially served as the qualifying clash. The batters from South Australia took control to score 614 runs for 7 wickets declared before Jason Sangha finished with 103 not out while Alex Carey made 56. The Queensland batting lineup reached 370 in their innings although Jimmy Peirson scored 128 runs while Jack Wildermuth made 104. The match was not settled when Michael Neser (68) fought alongside Nathan McAndrew, Lloyd Pope and Henry Thornton without success.

Queensland’s Final Hopes Hang In The Balance After Draw Against South Australia

Both South Australia and Queensland lost their chances for victory by day four’s afternoon because Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne accepted a draw when Jason Sangha hit his century. The South Australian team declared on 614 for 7 in their first inning before scoring 252 for 5 in their second inning to bowl out Queensland for 370 yet ran out of time ahead of a possible victory. The drawn match has given Queensland limited chances for further competition because New South Wales must fail to catch up with 529 while Western Australia must avoid winning either the current game or the next one to advance into the final.

Sangha’s Century And Carey’s Form Highlight South Australia’s Strong Batting Display

South Australia reached 66 for 2 at oyun break on the last day before batting to 252 without loss as Sangha led the scoring with 103 not out. His fifth first-class century became a celebration when he launched a six off Mitch Swepson into long-off territory in what turned out to be his match-best hitting point. The bowler Labuschagne concluded the match with 4 wickets for 107 runs by dismissing McSweeney (27) lbw. A teammate described Labuschagne’s part-time medium pace as he has a special talent for breaking up teams. Alex Carey stretched his summer batting excellence by collecting 56 runs in the second inning following his first-innings century resulting in a recent first-class average of 120.67.
