‘She is India’s pride’ – PM Narendra Modi leads wishes as PV Sindhu clinches bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics

PV Sindhu created history at Tokyo Olympics 2020 and clinched the bronze medal by defeating China He Bingjiao 21-13, 21-15. The only Indian female Olympian with 2 medals in Olympics now, Sindhu had won a silver medal in Rio Olympics 2016. Overall, she is the third Indian to win 2 medals in Olympics.

Sindhu defeated the Chinese shuttler in straight games 21-13, 21-15 to ensure a podium finish. The 26-year-old came up with her A-game and won the first game 21-13. She had it to sweat it out in the 2nd game as He Bingjiao kept Sindhu’s lead under check. In the end, the Indian shuttler emerged victorious. 

Twitterati was in all praise for Sindhu after her historic medal win. Indian Prime Minister took to Twitter to laud the shuttler and wrote: We are all elated by the stellar performance by @Pvsindhu1. Congratulations to her on winning the Bronze at @Tokyo2020. She is India’s pride and one of our most outstanding Olympians. #Tokyo2020.” Check out some other reactions to Sindhu’s win –

Sindhu registered a big win in the first game and He Bingjiao struggled against the Indian. He Bingjiao made a comeback in the 2nd game and kept Sindhu’s lead under check. Sindhu kept the momentum going and continued to add to her points tally to bring home the medal glory.

With her win, India have now won 3  medals in Tokyo Olympics 2020. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal last week while Sindhu has won the bronze

Boxer Lovlina Borgohain is assured of a medal and is still in contention to win a gold or silver medal. Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams are also in contention to bring home the glory.
