Indian actress Shahana Goswami is known for her recent film ‘Santosh,’ which has been shortlisted for the Oscars 2025. The film, made in Hindi and based in the United Kingdom, is competing for the ‘Best Foreign Film’ category. It was selected over India’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’ for this spot. While ‘Santosh’ moved forward, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ did not continue in the Oscar race.

Shahana shared her happiness about the film’s Oscar progress on her Instagram handle. She posted with the caption: “So happy for the team especially our writer director Sandhya Suri for this little glory of recognition for our film Santosh! How incredible to be shortlisted from amongst 85 films. Thank you to everyone who loved it, supported it and voted for it.”

She also expressed her happiness on her X handle by reposting the post by Sanjay Bishnoi that said: “This is a dream come true. What a moment !! Thank you, @TheAcademy for this recognition and honour. Santosh is an unstoppable force.”

About the film ‘Santosh’

The film ‘Santosh’ centres on a recently widowed woman named Santosh, portrayed by Shahana Goswami, who inherits her late husband’s job as a police constable. When a young girl from a marginalized community is killed, Santosh gets drawn into the inquiry along with the feminist officer Sharma, portrayed by Sunita Rajwar. Santosh had its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on 20 May 2024 and received positive reviews from critics.

About ‘Laapataa Ladies’

Kiran Rao’s film Laapataa Ladies was chosen as India’s official entry for the Oscars this year. This Indian Hindi comedy-drama follows two newly married brides who accidentally get swapped, leading both women into a series of humorous adventures as a result. Unfortunately, the film did not make it to the shortlist.
