Sensex rebounds after 5-day rout soar 574.35 points; Nifty climbs 177.90 pts to 17,136.55

Ending their 5-day losing streak, domestic benchmark indices ended in the green today. The BSE Sensex ended 574.35 points or 1.02 per cent up at 57,037.50. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty gained 177.90 points or 1.05 per cent to 17,136.55.
The broader BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices also advanced in congruence with the index and closed at 108.87 or 0.45 per cent and 103.65 or 0.36% higher, respectively. On the sectoral front, the Nifty Bank index ended .07 per cent down. Likewise, the Nifty Financial services also ended in the red.
On BSE, the top gainers were Ultracemco, Asian paint, Maruti, Reliance advancing more than 3 per cent each, while TCS, Bharti Airtel, Hindunilvr, and HDFC increased more than 2 per cent. On the contrary, NTPC, Axis bank, Powergrid, SBIN, LT, ITC, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finserv, ICICI bank and Bajfinance were the drags.
On NSE, the top gainers were BPCL, Tata Motors, Shreecem, Eichermot and Maruti, while Bajfinance, Bajajfinsv, ICICI bank, JSW steel and LT were the drags.
Elsewhere in Asia, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Shanghai markets settled lower, while Tokyo ended with gains. Markets in Europe were trading higher in the afternoon session.
Stocks in the US had ended significantly higher on Tuesday. International oil benchmark Brent crude gained 0.89 per cent to USD 108.2 per barrel. According to stock exchange data, foreign institutional investors continued their selling spree, offloading shares worth a net Rs 5,871.69 crore on Tuesday.
