Scottish Star Brandon McMullen Achieves Historic ODI Double, Surpasses Several Legends

Scotland’s rising star Brandon McMullen has etched his name into the record books by becoming the second-fastest cricketer in ODI history to achieve the double of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets, outpacing legendary all-rounders like Kapil Dev, Lance Klusener, Shakib Al Hasan, and Steve Waugh.

McMullen reached this milestone during Scotland’s match against the Netherlands in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. While he managed just 9 runs from 13 deliveries in the game, it was his all-round impact that stood out once again.

Scotland posted a competitive total of 262/9 in 50 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Finlay McCreath (81 off 106 balls, including 7 fours and a six) and Mark Watt (60 off 72 balls, with 5 fours and 2 sixes). Dutch bowler Kyle Klein was the pick of the bowlers with 3/62.

With the ball, McMullen delivered another impactful spell, picking up 3 wickets for 40 runs in his 10 overs. He removed Dutch captain Max O’Dowd (23 off 14), Vikramjit Singh (7), and Noah Croes (26 off 24) to help bowl out the Netherlands for 218 in 45 overs, sealing a crucial win for Scotland.

A Record-Breaking Achievement

McMullen completed the 1,000-run and 50-wicket double in just 33 ODIs, placing him second only to Netherlands great Ryan ten Doeschate, who did it in 28 matches. The Scotland all-rounder now joins an elite list, ahead of:

Player Country Matches to Achieve Double
Zeeshan Maqsood Oman 37
Corey Anderson New Zealand 40
Lance Klusener South Africa 42
Greg Chappell Australia 44
Kapil Dev India 46
Steve Waugh Australia 46
Rohan Mustafa UAE 50
Shakib Al Hasan Bangladesh 50

McMullen’s ODI Stats So Far

In his 33-match ODI career, Brandon McMullen has scored 1,149 runs at an average of 45.96, with 4 centuries and 4 fifties, and a top score of 151. With the ball, he has taken 52 wickets at an average of 20.09, including a best performance of 5/34.

McMullen’s continued excellence with both bat and ball highlights his growing importance in international cricket and further cements his status as one of the brightest talents in the associate world.
