Scammer Poses As CJI DY Chandrachud, Requests Rs 500 For Cab Fare, Probe Launched

In today’s digital world, scams are on the rise, with fraudsters using various tricks to deceive people. One of the latest scams involves someone pretending to be Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud to ask for money for a cab ride. An X user shared a viral screenshot showing the scammer claiming to be CJI Chandrachud. The impersonator said they were stuck in Connaught Place (CP) and urgently needed Rs 500 for a cab to reach an important collegium meeting at the Supreme Court.

Cyber Fraud Alert: CJI Impersonation Scam And Rising Scratch Card Schemes

The fraudster wrote, “Hello, I am CJI, and we have an urgent collegium meeting. I’m stuck at Connaught Place. Can you send me Rs 500 for a cab? I’ll return the money once I reach the court.” The message ended with “sent from iPad.” After the incident, the Supreme Court, following Chief Justice DY Chandrachud’s instructions, filed a formal complaint with the cyber crime cell on August 27. The cyber crime cell is now investigating the case to identify and catch the scammer.

Cyber fraud and scams are becoming more common, with scammers constantly coming up with new ways to trick people. A recent example is the “Scratch Card Scam,” which has caused many people to lose a lot of money.

Scratch Card Scam: New Cyber Fraud Drains Victims’ Bank Accounts

A new type of cyber fraud has recently appeared, targeting people through scratch cards. In these scams, victims receive a scratch card via courier that promises a chance to win a large amount of money. After scratching the card, they are told they’ve won a big prize, often worth lakhs in Indian currency. The card instructs them to call a phone number to claim their winnings.

This is where the scam starts. When the victim calls the number, they’re informed that to receive the prize money, they must first pay a processing fee and taxes. Believing this, the victim provides personal details and makes the payments as instructed. This allows the scammer to access the victim’s bank account, resulting in significant financial losses.
