Tennis star Sania Mirza’s sister, Anam Mirza, recently revealed that she deleted the UPI app from her phone. In a candid video shared on Instagram, Mirza explained that she even deleted Google Pay from her phone to reduce impulsive, everyday spending. In her video, Anam shared that by not scanning QR codes or making instant payments, she became much more aware of where her money was going. She shared the video as Episode 4 of her series Little Changes, Big Impact.

What She Shared

“Little Changes, Big Impact. Stopped using UPI completely. No scan = less spend. Made me way more aware of where my money’s going,” the caption of her post reads. Mirza acknowledged that the change was not easy for her at first. In the video, she admitted, “Initially, I had to ask friends to buy me coffee,” It means she had started depending a lot on how easy and quick UPI transactions were in her daily life. However, over time, she said she adjusted to the shift and now finds the approach beneficial in making her more conscious of her spending patterns.

Anam Mirza’s video quickly caught people’s attention online. Some praised her or being honest. According to them, her incident was relatable. Some users said they were inspired to try the same thing and see if it helped them in spending less.

How Users Reacted

One of the users, @syedanooreenmeraj, commented, “This will definitely make very very big impact for sure.”

A second user, @sahanabettada2, commented, “Really a great change to have at this era of time.”

‘You Are Rich’

However, not everyone was convinced about her assessment of UPI. Some responses questioned the practicality of such a change for people who aren’t financially secure. A user with the handle, @bagchidevleena, commented, “Suits you because you’re already rich. Only middle-class people like us could relate, how convenient it is to have UPI. People should definitely think before doing unnecessary expenses but deleting UPI a/c for that is too much.”

Anam’s video on saving money got attention because she didn’t suggest any difficult budgeting tips. Instead, she just talked about avoiding the habit of quick and easy online payments.
