Samoa’s Darius Visser Breaks Yuvraj Singh’s Record, Smashes 39 Runs In An Over

Yuvraj Singh’s long-standing record of 36 runs in an over in a T20I has now been shattered. He had hit 6 sixes off England Pacer Stuart Broad in the 2007 T20 World Cup. So many years after, Samoa’s wicketkeeper-batsman Darius Visser broke this record by hitting 39 runs off Vanuatu seamer Nalin Nipiko at Garden Oval No.2 in Apia, Samao. This happened during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A match.

Visser hammered six towering sixes alongside benefiting from three no-balls bowled by Nipiko during the over. His explosive knock not only surpassed the efforts of Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, and Dipendra Singh Airee—all of whom recently managed 36-run overs—but also established him as a new force in the game.

He showcased his immense power, launching three consecutive sixes off the first three legal deliveries of Nipiko’s over. Not stopping there, he cleared the ropes yet again on the fourth legal ball, driving Samoa’s total past the hundred mark. Nipiko temporarily stemmed the tide with a dot ball on the fifth delivery, but Visser wasn’t finished. He capitalized on the third no-ball of the over with another six.

Visser closed the over in style, smashing yet another six, writing his name in the history books as Samoa’s first-ever centurion in international cricket. His explosive innings included a staggering 14 sixes, falling just four short of the men’s T20I record for most sixes in a match.

Visser’s brilliant 132 off 62 balls powered Samoa to their second win in the tournament, boosting their hopes of securing a spot in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
