Salman Khan Panvel defamation case: Actor’s lawyer argues, ‘Why are you bringing in religion?’, in property dispute

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is currently embroiled in a defamation case against his Panvel farmhouse neighbour Ketan Kakkad after the latter took to social media and hurled several allegations against the Antim actor. Salman soon hit back with a civil defamation suit against Ketan and asked him to take down all videos and social media posts that defame him. This case is currently being heard by a civil court in Mumbai.

As per the latest reports, advocate Pradeep Gandhy, appearing for actor Salman Khan, argued his defamation case seeking an injunction against the actor’s neighbour. Salman’s lawyer argued that Kakkad’s allegations were wild and baseless and were very personal in nature.

According to the suit filed by the actor, Kakkad, who is an NRI based in the USA and now settled in Mumbai, purchased a plot of land in Panvel around 1995 near Salman Khan’s farmhouse. The plot of land was bought for the construction of a house, ashram, temple etc. However, Salman, in his suit has stated that as per his knowledge, Kakkad’s allotment of plot land was cancelled by the Government of Maharashtra/concerned forest department as illegal.

As per the suit, Kakkad then started raising baseless and false accusations and allegations against the actor and his family members.

During the hearing, while Gandhy referred to the low level of allegations being levelled against Khan, he argued, “In a property dispute, why are you tarnishing my personal reputation? Why are you bringing in religion?” He added, “My mother is a Hindu, my father is a Muslim and my brothers have married Hindus. We celebrate all festivals.”

“I have no political aspirations,” Gandhy stated, referring to allegations of Khan being in connivance with the Prime Minister. He further referred to another set of allegations and stated, “So all Muslims are bad?” Salman Khan’s lawyer argued in court that he was not just seeking an injunction but also seeking for all the defamatory content to be pulled down.

Furthermore, during the hearing, the court individually asked both parties if the only route to Kakkad’s alleged plot of land was through Khan’s farmhouse. While Kakkad said it was, Khan’s counsel denied such claims. Judge Laddha sought official papers of the property or a map to verify the facts.

On the work front, Salman treated the fans with the teaser of his new music video titled Main Chala earlier in the day. Iulia Vantur and Guru Randhawa have given their vocals to the romantic number, which has been composed by Shabbir Ahmed.
