In a significant development in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, a Russian drone attack on a residential area in Kharkiv killed five people, including a toddler.

Ukrainian authorities said on Monday that the attack unfolded on August 18 as a strike hit a five-story residential building, resulting in the death of at least five people, including a one-year-old child, and injuring 20 others, among them at least six children.

Ukrainian authorities said that rescue teams are still searching for people trapped inside.

The authority further stated that emergency workers pulled a young woman and a man alive from the rubble.

“Just hours earlier, on the evening of August 17, Russia launched a missile strike on Kharkiv, injuring eight people, including a 13-year-old child,” the statement added.

Earlier Strike

Earlier on Friday, one person was killed and 10 others were injured in a Ukrainian drone strike on a residential building in Russia’s Kursk region, regional governor Alexander Khinshtein said, IANS reported.

According to preliminary reports cited by Xinhua News Agency, a drone struck a building in the city’s Railway District, sparking a fire that consumed the top four floors.

Putin-Trump Meet

US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met at a summit at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15. The meeting lasted about three hours and focused primarily on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine

After the Alaska summit, US President Trump on Saturday stated that the Russia-Ukraine conflict should be resolved through a direct peace agreement rather than a ceasefire. Trump also expressed optimism that such diplomatic efforts could save millions of lives.
