Russia Plane Crash: Angara Airlines Flight Crashes With 49 On Board; No Survivors – Reports

The Russian passenger plane that lost contact with air traffic controllers on Thursday has crashed in the eastern Amur region. All 49 passengers on board, including 5 children and six crew, have been reported dead. Crew error during landing due to poor visibility is likely considered to be the reason behind the tragic crash.

The plane, operated by a Siberia-based airline called Angara, went missing today after disappearing from radar screens. It was drawing closer to its destination in the remote town of Tynda in the Amur region, Regional Governor Vasily Orlov said. The plane’s tail number showed that it was built in 1976 and was nearly 50 years old, reports added.

Russian emergency services said, “An Antonov An-24 passenger plane carrying about 50 people crashed in Russia’s far east, and initial information suggested that everyone on board was killed.”

An 8-second clip shared by state television news RT shows massive damage to the aircraft.
