Russia And US Agree To Overcome Obstacles In Embassy Financing; Russia Proposes Resuming Direct Flights

Russia and the United States are inching closer since US President Donald Trump took over the Oval Office. The Russian foreign ministry said the two nations cleared the hurdles to financing their embassies.

The talks between the two nations took place in Istanbul. The Russian foreign ministry said the talks were held in a conducive environment, and the outcome was meaningful.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia posted on X, “On February 27, expert-level Russian-US consultations convened in Istanbul. The discussions proceeded in a substantive and business-like manner, with both Parties agreeing to continue dialogue through this channel.”

Alexander Darchiev, Director of the North Atlantic Department, represented the Russian side while Sonata Coulter, deputy assistant secretary of state overseeing policy toward Russia and Central Europe attended the meeting.

Russia has also proposed to resume direct flights between the two countries.

On February 28, the meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump did not end well at the Oval Office. The two leaders exchanged heated arguments.

Speaking to CNN,  US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the verbal clash between the leaders started after Zelenskyy asked Vance on what kind of diplomacy they are talking about. Rubio said the meeting went “off the rails” after that interaction.

Asked on what does he want to see Zelenskyy apologise for, Rubio stated, “Well, apologize for turning this thing into the fiasco for him that it became. There was no need for him to go in there and become antagonistic. Look, this thing went off the rails. You were there, I believe it went off the rails when he said, let me ask you a question to the vice president, What kind of diplomacy are you talking about? Well, this this is a serious thing. I mean, thousands of people have been killed. Thousands and he talks about all these horrible things that have happened to prisoners of war and children. All true, all bad. This is what we’re dealing with here. It needs to come to an end. We are trying to bring it to an end.”
