Team India will be walking at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 with an intention to level the five-match series and retain the BGT. The Indian team is currently trailing in the series by 1-2 and they will have a lot to prove in the New Year’s Test. Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been in the eyes of the trollers due to his poor performance in the series. The latter has only scored 31 runs from three matches as of now and hasn’t won a single Test match from the last six Tests.

Is Virat Kohli Returning As Team India Captain?

Ahead of the IND vs AUS 5th Test, a report by The Times of India claimed that Indian batter Virat Kohli would return as the captain of the Indian team by replacing Rohit Sharma in Test cricket. Rohit’s future in Test cricket is very uncertain and is pretty likely to announce retirement after the New Year’s Test. The report has added that Virat, who is expected to replace him and return to the leadership role has been addressing team huddles and been vocal on the field.

The IND vs AUS 5th Test will be very essential for the India national cricket team if they would like to give themselves a chance to make a place in the final of the World Test Championship. If Rohit Sharma and Co end up winning the Sydney Test they would like Australia to lose the remaining two matches against Sri Lanka which will cement their place in the WTC final.
