Risk Of Rape, Killing, Terrorist Attack In India: US Travel Advisory Warns Citizens To Avoid These ‘Danger’ States

The United States has put out a friendly warning for its citizens. It’s best to steer clear of certain places like Manipur, Jammu & Kashmir, the India-Pakistan border, and some regions in central & eastern India. Why? Well, there are issues with terrorism and Naxalites.

In its latest travel advisory about India, the U.S. Department of State has shared some new details on northeastern states. They say it’s important to stay cautious in India because of crime, terrorism, and Naxalism.

Specifically, Jammu & Kashmir, the India-Pakistan border, and Manipur, alongside parts of central and eastern India are classified as Level 4 zones on the travel notice. Overall, though, India is at Level 2—it’s not all bad.

For reasons like civil unrest and terrorism, they advise against trips to Jammu & Kashmir (except for the eastern Ladakh region and Leh). Also, if you’re planning to go within 10 kilometers of the India-Pakistan border? Better think twice due to the risk of possible armed conflict.

It’s also wise to avoid certain areas in central and eastern India because of Naxalism and other issues. For Manipur specifically, there are concerns about violence & crime.

Americans are encouraged to think again about traveling to northeastern states because of terrorism worries and violence lurking around. The advisory points out that incidents of rape are on the rise in India; scary stuff. Violent crimes like sexual assault have even happened at tourist spots and various locations.

The U.S. Department of State reminds everyone that terrorists might strike at any moment—aiming for tourist attractions, transportation hubs, markets, shopping centers, & government buildings.

Oh! And here’s something important: The U.S. government can’t always offer emergency help in rural areas from eastern Maharashtra stretching up north through Telangana to western West Bengal.

For government employees? They need special permission before they can travel into these areas. Stay safe out there.
