The cry for justice in the case of the junior doctor from RG Kar Hospital, who was raped and murdered most brutally last month, is growing louder. Peaceful protests are underway throughout West Bengal. On Sunday, the third ‘Reclaim the Night’ march will be undertaken across the state where thousands of women are expected to march in protest against the heinous crime. It is being organized to mark one month of the incident that saw protests going viral.

Here Are Details To ‘Reclaim the Night’ March

The ‘Reclaim the Night’ movement began with rallies on August 14 and with public protests on September 4, it became a state-wide agitation for justice. Another event also as part of ‘Reclaim the Night’ is at midnight on September 8, demanding justice for Abhaya.

None of the earlier incidents had shown any flag of a political party; instead, protesters moved with national flags for showing unified demand for justice beyond politics. Different women actors, students, professionals, and homemakers—came together in and around Kolkata on August 14 and September 4, 2019, and marched together holding posters and candles while protesting against the violence which led to the death of the doctor.

‘Women Take Over The Dawn,’ Slated For September 9

Another event, called ‘Women Take Over the Dawn,’ is also slated for September 9 in Siliguri, north Bengal. According to former table tennis champion Mantu Ghosh, on the day, music bands and singers would perform from 2 am to 4:30 am demanding justice for the victim and all women who were subjected to sexual abuse.

On August 9, the body of the postgraduate trainee of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found, and the next day, a civic volunteer was arrested in this connection. Based on the order from the High Court of Calcutta, the CBI investigates the alleged rape and murder of the doctor.

“Initially we had planned small groups of women at three or four places at night, but it became a huge protest. People demonstrated at a lot of places within the city and nearby districts,” social activist Rimjhim Sinha said.
