Yes, Reliance is aggressively expanding its footprint in the OTT space. It has always been evident that whenever the brand enters a new sector, its ultimate goal is to dominate or even monopolize the industry. Now, with another bonanza offer from Reliance Jio, the brand’s telecom division is poised to dominate the industry. The standout offer they are providing lets you watch every single match for less than ₹1. Here are the key details to help you make the most of this plan.

After acquiring Disney+ Hotstar, Reliance has been rolling out ambitious plans in the OTT sector, drawing even its rivals’ customers toward its platform. The marketing and strategy teams deserve applause for introducing such affordable plans for the masses. With a clear aim to dominate the industry, Reliance is leaving other platforms behind. Moreover, JioHotstar holds exclusive live broadcasting rights for some of the world’s biggest sporting events, including the ICC World Cup, IPL, and FIFA World Cup.

Targeting Cricket Fans

Reliance has made a strategic move to attract viewers to JioHotstar ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches kicking off this month. To achieve this, it has partnered with Jio. With Jio’s newly introduced 90-day plan, users get 5GB of data and free access to JioHotstar for three months. Previously priced at ₹149, this package has now been reduced to ₹100. While the earlier plan restricted Hotstar access to mobile devices, the new offer allows users to stream content on Smart TVs as well.

Who Is Reliance Targeting With Its Bonanza Package?

With the new package, Reliance isn’t just targeting potential customers—it’s specifically aiming to attract Airtel and Vodafone Idea users, encouraging them to switch to Jio. By offering a deal where each IPL match can be watched for less than ₹1, Reliance has two key objectives: first, to maximize Hotstar subscriptions and expand its user base.

Comparison Between Jio’s Rs 149 Plan And Rs 100 Plan

Jio’s regular Rs 149 plan limits access to mobile phones. Jio’s Rs 149 plan is a prepaid plan that offers 20 days of validity and 1 GB of data per day. It also includes unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day. 20 GB of high-speed data. You will be able to stream JioTV, JioCloud, and JioCinema with unlimited voice calls.

Though the ₹100 plan which is a data-only pack, enables users to stream web series, movies, and live sports—including the upcoming IPL 2025—on both smartphones and smart TVs at up to 1080p resolution. The Rs. 100 prepaid recharge plan for mobile users offers a complimentary ad-supported subscription to JioHotstar for a period of 90 days. In contrast, Jio Hotstar’s standalone Super plan costs ₹299, making this a cost-effective option, especially for those without an existing Jio Hotstar subscription. Customers will receive a total of 5GB of high-speed internet. Once the data limit is exhausted, the speed will be reduced to 64kbps, as per the telecom operator. However, the free JioHotstar subscription will continue to work seamlessly on both mobile and smart TVs.
