Michael Oliver made his come back in Premier League as a referee as the VAR for Brighton vs Chelsea match. This was just days after he was involved in a dispute during the intense match of Liverpool vs Everton at Goodison Park which turned into a huge controversy. In that match Liverpool was leading by 2-1 when Salah scored late, but it got equalized at stoppage time because of the goal scored by James Tarkowski. The Premier League has now released a statement about the events and Oliver’s choices during that high-stakes game.

Controversy Erupts At Goodison Park As Liverpool Clash With Officials

At Goodison Park, with Liverpool ahead, drama erupted. They were by the referee denying a free-kick, and then Everton scored that equalizer. After the final whistle, things went from bad to worse as Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones were both sent off for a hot exchange. Slot was sent off by Michael Oliver as he confronted the referee on the playing surface, while Arne his assistant Sipke was also ejected. As per FA “allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished.”

Premier League Clarifies VAR Decision After Controversial Disallowed Goal

Oliver made his return to Premier League duty as VAR for Brighton 3 Chelsea, and this time he had it pretty easy. However, as fate would have it, the Premier League had to release a statement explaining one of its decisions in this match. Shortly after Enzo Maresca’s side went behind Enzo Fernandez scored an equaliser – or so he thought; a goal wrongly disallowed against evidence on television replays looked like rotten luck to him. The League therefore came out anyway to clear up cognitions and public confusions caused by this latest case of utterly human error.
