Ravi Shankar Prasad, Harsh Vardhan, Prakash Javadekar among big names dropped from Modi Cabinet

Ahead of the Union Cabinet reshuffle, a number of Union ministers resigned from their respective posts on Wednesday.

There are several high-profile ministers who have resigned from the Union Cabinet. These include Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar and Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

President Ram Nath Kovind has accepted the resignations of a total of 12 Union ministers, a Rashtrapati Bhawan statement said.

A number of new faces were inducted into the Narendra Modi Council of Ministers this evening while several ministers are likely to be elevated. A total of 43 ministers took oath today at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Complete list of Union ministers who quit today ahead of Cabinet expansion:

  1. Ravi Shankar Prasad – Minister of Law and Justice, and Electronics and Information Technology and Communications
  2. DV Sadananda Gowda – Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister
  3. Thaawarchand Gehlot – Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment
  4. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ – Minister of Education
  5. Dr Harsh Vardhan – Minister of Science and Technology, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Minister of Earth Sciences 
  6. Prakash Javadekar – Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises
  7. Santosh Kumar Gangwar – Minister of State with independent charge in the Ministry of Labour and Employment
  8. Babul Supriyo – Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change
  9. Dhotre Sanjay Shamrao – Minister of State for Education
  10. Rattan Lal Kataria – Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Social Justice & Empowerment
  11. Pratap Chandra Sarangi – Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises
  12. Sushri Debasree Chaudhuri – Minister of State for Women and Child Development
