Prithvi Shaw’s cricketing journey has been full of twist and turns but another setback has struck the opening batter as he has been left out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad. Team management hasn’t announced any reasons, but reports suggest that Shaw’s fitness and discipline have caused some trouble among the coaching staff. It is being reported that the MCA selection committee, including Sanjay Patil, Ravi Thaker, Jeetendra Thackeray, Kiran Powar, and Vikrant Yeligeti, has sentenced Shaw to at least one Ranji Trophy match.
Prithvi Shaw’s Indiscipline A Big Issue
According to Cricbuzz, Shaw’s indiscipline has become the biggest headache for the Maharashtra Cricket Association. The selectors and management eye him to drop a letter on the subject by keeping him out of the team. “He has been late even in coming to net sessions and is inconsistent in commitment towards practice,” a source pointed out. Some observers notice that he is a bit overweight and that looks a more characteristic feature of his general lack of professionalism.
In contrast, there have been regular faces such as Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and even Ajinkya Rahane in the nets. They have made the best of it. Shaw hasn’t had too many opportunities to go through his motions after some sub-par performances-even in matches.
Dropping Prithvi Shaw was not only a decision taken by the selectors. The captain and the coach were also keen on giving him a send-off.
Shaw’s Career Full Of Obstacles
Shaw, who made his Test debut for India against West Indies last year, 2018, has seen his career go into a decline largely on account of off-field issues. In his two Ranji appearances this season he came away with scores of 7 and 12 against Baroda and 1 and an unbeaten 39 against Maharashtra.
In Tests Prithvi Shaw has scored 339 runs in 5 matches, this includes 1 century and 2 half-centuries. In ODIs he has 189 runs in 6 matches.
He has a great First Class record, Shaw has amassed 4556 runs in 58 matches this includes 13 hundreds and 18 half-centuries.
As a promising talent aiming for return to the Indian national team, the current trajectory of Shaw does little to enhance such prospects.
