Ajinkya Rahane played a captaincy knock and scored a brilliant century in the Ranji Trophy quarter finals. In the match against Haryana in Kolkata Rahane reached his 29th first class century in the morning session which marked a significant milestone in his 200th match.

The seasoned Mumbai batter now has 41 centuries to his name (included Tests) played a very important role in Mumbai’s lead to over 300 runs nearly ensuring place in semi-finals. Rahane was eventually dismissed for 108 by Anuj Thakarai, having faced 180 balls and struck 13 boundaries. This was his first century of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.

Rahane’s knock came after a very significant 129-run partnership with India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav who contributed 70 runs. All-rounder Shivam Dube also chipped in with a quick knock of 48 runs. Mumbai bowlers led by Shardul thakur responded strongly in Haryana’s second innings with a stunning six-wicket haul that reduced Haryana to 301 all out giving Mumbai a 14 run first inning lead.
