An Indian national and a doctoral student Ranjani Srinivasan voluntarily left the United States after her visa was revoked. Ranjani Srinivasan is a doctoral student at Columbia University. Her visa was reportedly revoked for “advocating violence and terrorism.” US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem on Friday stated that Srinivasan, a student in Urban Planning at Columbia University, self-deported using the CBP Home App.

What Led To Her Revocation?

An official release by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated: “Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced that one of the Columbia students who had her student visa revoked for advocating for violence and terrorism self-deported using the CBP Home App and ICE arrested a Palestinian student for overstaying her expired F-1 visa.

Her visa was revoked on March 5 by the US Department of State over her alleged involvement in “activities supporting Hammas.”

“Ranjani Srinivasan, a citizen and national of India, entered the United States on a F-1 student visa as a doctoral student in Urban Planning at Columbia University. Srinivasan was involved in activities supporting Hammas, a terrorist organization. On March 5, 2025, the Department of State revoked her visa. The Department of Homeland Security has obtained video footage of her using the CBP Home App to self-deport on March 11,” the release stated.

US Visa Is A Privilege: Kristi Noem

Meanwhile, Secretary Kristi Noem posted a video on X and said that holding a US visa is a privilege. She added that she was glad to see one of the Columbia University ‘terrorist sympathizers’ use the CBP Home app to self deport.

“It is a privilege to be granted a visa to live & study in the United States of America. When you advocate for violence and terrorism, that privilege should be revoked, and you should not be in this country. I’m glad to see one of the Columbia University terrorist sympathisers use the CBP Home app to self deport,” wrote Noem on X.

What Is CBP Home App?

CBP Home is a mobile application that grants access to a variety of services provided by United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including: Intent to Depart, Check Border Wait Times, Apply for a Provisional I-94 Entry, Request an Inspection of Agriculture or Biological Product, Submit a Travelers Manifest for Bus Operators. According to Intent to Depart section rule, individuals can notify the U.S. Government of their intent to depart the United States.

It is a Free mobile application app and available to everyone who has access to a mobile device.

The CBP Home app was launched by US President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It allows undocumented immigrants to ‘self-deport.’ The CBP Home app is an upgraded version of the CBP One app, which was used by Joe Biden’s administration.
