Ranjana Nachiyaar Resigns From BJP Over Language Policy Dispute

Actor-politician Ranjana Nachiyaar resigned from the BJP on Tuesday, stating that she was opposed to the three-language policy. AIADMK MP M Thambidurai meanwhile blamed the ruling DMK for politicizing language during election times.

Addressing mediapersons, Thambidurai blamed the state government stand on New Education Policy (NEP) as raising some seeming inconsistency with regard to the latter. Observing that, whereas the DMK government goes against Hindi imposition, they do allow CBSE schools that also conduct teaching of more than one language such as Hindi.

“The government is giving permissions to many CBSE schools. If Chief Minister Stalin is serious about finding a solution to the language problem, he must pull out all CBSE schools from Tamil Nadu. CBSE schools are imparting all languages, and along with them, there is the National Education Policy. Why don’t the ministers promote just two languages? By giving permission to CBSE schools, you’re essentially allowing the Hindi language and the National Education Policy,” Thambidurai said.

DMK constitutes part of that game. Elections are near and the language issue has cropped up. Stalin is playing with sentiments with the motive of gaining the votes. The government needs to provide the facilities and the welfare to the public. The language issue has cropped up in an attempt at diverting attention away from the issues, added he.

DMK cadres had planned a demonstration at the central bus stand at Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu against the Trilingual Language System. On the occasion of the demonstration, pamphlets were distributed among the public with the intention of making them realize that they opposed the move.

In particular, the DMK has been vociferous in the defense of the Tamil language and against any effort at making Hindi ‘ever more dominant’ and insisting that it will undermine Tamil culture and identity.

Earlier, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) spokesperson TKS Elangovan raised significant concerns over its implications on education in Tamil Nadu, accusing the central government of using the policy to “impose religious ideas on the education system.”
