Ram Mandir trust responds to corruption charges in land purchase, says ‘don’t care about such allegations’

After Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) levelled charges of corruption in the land purchase by the Ram Mandir trust, vice president of Vishva Hindu Parishad and general secretary of the trust Champat Rai said people have been making allegations against them for the last 100 years.

“We were also accused of killing Mahatma Gandhi. We don’t care about such allegations. We will study them and then reply,” he added.

This comes after AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that land worth Rs 2 crore was purchased at Rs 18.5 crore by the trust in Ayodhya while SP leader asked how a land’s value can increase by 10 times in 10 minutes.

‘Transactions were done at the behest of Champat Rai’

Singh further said that the value of the land was estimated at Rs 2 crore during the registry, however, payment of Rs 16.5 crore was made to the seller.

The AAP leader alleged that both the transactions were done at the behest of Champat Rai while trust member Anil Mishra and Ayodhya Mayor Rishikesh Upadhyay were witnesses to the registry.

Sanjay Singh also demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The Ram Mandir will be constructed over 5-acre land and rest of the land, about 100 acres, would be used to develop different facilities like museums, library, Yagyashala and picture gallery depicting different episodes of Lord Ram’s life, reported IANS.

Rs 2,100 crore collected by VHP

Several politicians have said people have the right to know how the funds collected would be used.

Karnataka Assembly’s Leader of Opposition, Siddaramaiah said in February that not only he but everyone has the right to demand to know how the fund collected in the name of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is going to be used.

The Samarpan Nidhi Abhiyan’ run by the VHP concluded on February 27 with a collection of over Rs 2,100 crore.
