The Election Commission has announced elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states. Voting and counting will be held on June 18, 2026. The election process will be completed by June 20.

The highest number of seats- four each-will go to polls in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat. Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will also witness important elections, while smaller states like Meghalaya and Mizoram will vote for one seat each.

Several senior leaders are completing their Rajya Sabha tenure. These include Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh and Shaktisinh Gohil.

Apart from retiring members, two Rajya Sabha seats became vacant after resignations. One seat in Maharashtra fell vacant after Sunetra Pawar resigned, while another seat in Tamil Nadu became empty after C.V. Shanmugam became an MLA.

The election notification will be issued on June 1, 2026. The last date for filing nominations is June 8, while scrutiny will happen on June 9. Candidates can withdraw nominations till June 11.

The Election Commission said MLAs will use a special violet sketch pen provided by the returning officer during voting. Election observers will also be appointed to ensure free and fair elections.
