External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar  called for a “strong and fair” United Nations. Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2025, Jaishankar stressed the importance of having an international order just like a domestic order. EAM criticised the UN for making Kashmir invasion a ‘dispute’ and turning the attacker and victim at par. During his remarks at the session on ‘Thrones and Thorns’, EAM declared occupation of some parts of Kashmir by Pakistan as “the longest standing illegal occupation” of territory by another country after the Second World War.

EAM Highlights Importance Of International Order

He reiterated that one needs to understand the importance of order. Jaishankar stated that one is looking at a very anarchic world if any order doesn’t exist. He said, “Look, I think we do need an international order just like we need a domestic order. Just like you need a society in a country, you need an international version of that and it’s not just big countries who will benefit if there is no order.”

Jaishankar further explained that any country which would take risk, which would have an extreme positions, which would test the system will use the disorder to its advantage.

“I mean we have seen in our own neighbourhood. You don’t have to be a big country to be a risky country. I have smaller neighbours who have done a pretty good job. So, first of all, we should all understand the importance of an order,” he added.

EAM Defines ‘Bedrock Of Global Rules’

EAM termed sovereignty and territorial integrity the “bedrock of global rules.” He highlighted that when the West goes out into other countries, it’s the ‘perseverance of democratic freedoms’, but when other countries come into the West, it seems to have a very ‘malign intention.’ Jaishankar also hinted at the political interference.

Jaishankar said, “Let’s give you a second example. We all speak of sovereignty and territorial integrity. All of us agree. It’s a vital principle. It’s a bedrock of global rules. After the Second World War, the longest standing illegal, I would say presence, occupation of a territory by another country pertains to India, what we saw in Kashmir. Now we went to the UN, what was an invasion was made into a dispute. So the attacker and the victim were put on par.”

S Jaishankar Advocates For Fair United Nations

EAM Jaishankar advocated for fairness at the United Nations. He said that a strong global order must have some basic consistency of standards.

He said, “So I think we need to have an order, there must be fairness. agree with you, Dominique, we need a strong UN, but a strong UN requires a fair UN. A strong global order must have some basic consistency of standards.”

Adding further to his remarks UN, EAM said that an audit of the working of the world for last eight decades is important and must. The audit will help to understand as many things have changed today.  “I think it’s important to audit the working of the world for the last eight decades and be honest about it and to understand today that the balances, the share holdings in the world have changed. We need a different conversation. We need frankly in that sense a different order,” stated Jaishankar.

Tulsi Gabbard Addresses Raisina Dialogue

Notably, the Director of National Intelligence, US, Tulsi Gabbard also addressed the Raisina Dialogue ON Tuesday. She expressed her deep admiration to India. Gabbard said, “It’s been too long, but it’s always such a wonderful and warm experience knowing the rich history of this country and the vibrant democracy that really serves as the foundation for the special bond that has long existed between our two countries. I wanted to start our conversation today by greeting you with ‘Aloha’ and ‘Namaste’. Contrary to popular belief, these words are not just greetings. They actually both have very deep, spiritual, powerful meanings that, for me, have been at the core and heart of my life and are what I hope will inspire meaningful dialogue and conversations here at Raisina.”

Gabbard further called her days in India as a ‘constructive’ and engaging one. She added, “I leave right after our dialogue for Washington DC but it has been a constructive few days engaging with our Indian counterparts working to build off of the momentum that was created by President Trump and PM Modi’s joint statement in Washington DC, after their Oval Office meeting.”
