Punjab Congress infighting: Told Sonia Gandhi all groups will follow her instructions, says Harish Rawat

As Congress is witnessing an infight between the camps of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, grand old party’s Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat, on Friday met Sonia Gandhi and assured her that all the parties will follow her instructions.

“I have informed Congress president Sonia Gandhi and told her that all parties will follow her instructions. There have been a few problems in Punjab, but we’re trying to resolve them. The situation is under control,” Rawat said after meeting Gandhi.

Rawat, who has been busy trying to end the infighting within the Punjab Congress, has maintained that there was no threat to the Amarinder Singh-led government in the state and the grand old party would contest the Assembly elections in 2022 under the leadership of Singh.

Meanwhile, while reacting to Sidhu’s statement that Congress high command should give a free hand to state unit chiefs to take decisions, the Congress veteran said presidents of the state units are free to take their decisions in accordance to outfit’s norms and constitution.

“I will see the context in which Navjot Singh Sidhu has made these remarks. Mr Sidhu is the respected chief of the Punjab unit. Who will have the power to take decisions if not the state presidents,” he had told media persons in Delhi.

Notably, despite Amarinder Singh’s strong reservations, Congress top leadership appointed Navjott Singh Sidhu as the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
