President Droupadi Murmu has approved the government’s proposal to convene the Winter Session of Parliament from December 1 to December 19, 2025.

In a post on X, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju announced the Winter Session, stating that he is “looking forward to a constructive and meaningful session that strengthens our democracy and serves the aspirations of the people.”

The Monsoon Session of Parliament, which began on July 21, concluded on August 21, a day ahead of schedule, with both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die. The session comprised 21 sittings spread over 32 days.

The proceedings were frequently disrupted by opposition protests demanding a discussion on the Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. As a result of repeated adjournments, the productivity of the Lok Sabha dropped to around 31 per cent, while that of the Rajya Sabha stood at 39 per cent.

According to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, 14 Bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha during the session. The Lower House passed 12 Bills, while the Upper House cleared 15. In total, 15 Bills received approval from both Houses of Parliament, and one Bill was withdrawn from the Lok Sabha, the ministry said in a release.

The session also included a special discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’, India’s decisive and successful counter-terrorism operation carried out in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The discussion was held in the Lok Sabha on July 28–29 and in the Rajya Sabha on July 29–30.
