‘Power struggle’ in Karnataka: CM Siddaramaiah begins lobbying against DK Shivakumar? Several leaders meet for breakfast

The internal conflict between the Congress government in Karnataka over the change of power has gained momentum. Presently, the Deputy CM DK Shivakumar-led faction is engaged in pressurising the Congress leadership in Delhi to make a decision, while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has begun lobbying.

On Tuesday, Shivakumar stirred the political pot after he claimed that there’s indeed “a confidential understanding on leadership transition among five-six leaders” soon after the Congress party emerged victorious in the 2023 assembly elections. Responding to media queries on the ‘internal conflict’ in Karnataka Congress for the Chief Minister’s position, he said, “I believe in conscience. We should work according to conscience. I don’t want to embarrass the party or weaken the party.” The faction led by him had travelled from Bengaluru to Delhi, citing the two-and-a-half-year formula. Several leaders and MLAs gathered in Delhi, pushing to make a decision.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has activated his efforts to save his position. He appealed to the high command to “end the transition confusion” and clarified that the final decision must come from the central brass.

Mallikarjun reacts to the ongoing tussle

The escalating internal conflict within the Karnataka government prompted Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to summon Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar to Delhi for discussions. The high-level talks are expected to involve Rahul Gandhi addressing the power tussle between the state’s top two party leaders. Kharge told reporters, “I will call everyone and have a discussion. Rahul Gandhi will also remain present in that discussion. Other members will also remain present. CM and Dy CM will also remain present. The decision will be made after a discussion with all of these. There is a team. I am not alone. The entire high command team will discuss and make a decision.”

Several Leaders Meet At CM Siddaramaiah’s Residence

Meanwhile, CM Siddaramaiah on Thursday morning held a meeting with Home Minister G. Parameshwara, Satish Jarkiholi, Mahadevappa, Venkatesh, Krishna Byre Gowda, and other leaders at his residence, reports added.
