Talk about coming back with a bang! After taking a long hiatus in 2017, owing to her deteriorating mental health, former AOA star Choa returned to Showbiz and it has been no way but up for the idol ever since. After lending her voice to two OSTs as well as starring in several shows, the singer garnered all the buzz as she dropped her first single Yesterday after four long years.
It goes without saying that the selection process of the song was no easy feat for Choa! Being her first comeback in so long, the expectations were high and she sure did deliver. But did you know Yesterday came to her after far too many rejected melodies?
“It has been a while, and because I know how long my fans had been waiting, it was even tougher for me to choose which song to record, to begin with. Before recording ‘YESTERDAY’, I had reviewed many songs. Some of them were too familiar, some of them were too unfamiliar, some of them felt far from my fans’ expectations, so I’ve been thinking a lot in my head, and obviously, it wasn’t easy for me to pick a song. Then ‘YESTERDAY’ caught my attention,” the singer admitted in an exclusive chat .
Confessing that she even dreamed about the track after she first heard it, her fascination with the song grew and cut to April 9, we have the end product right in front of us. Throwing self-doubt to the wind, Choa was more than happy to let her art do the talking, rather than ponder over trivial things like ‘popularity’.
“It came to my dream after I listen to it. I found the song fascinating and decided to record it. It wasn’t an easy choice as I want this comeback to go well, then a thought came to me. This song is worthy, popularity doesn’t matter. I should try something I couldn’t do when I was in a group,” she stated.
Here’s looking at the soulful track that has all our attention at the moment:
Dare we say she made a mighty fine choice? The song sure is everything her fans had been hoping to get from the seasoned K-pop star.
If you are wondering whether her long hiatus had anything to do with her creative direction, her answer might actually surprise you. “I used to prefer songs with an extravagant melody, then during my 3 years of break, I came to attach more to mellow songs, the songs easier to listen to during daily routine. I hope ‘YESTERDAY’ could be that song, a song you found at a cafe, that is permeated within your days,” was her reply.
