Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted India’s entire contingent which went to Tokyo Olympics 2020 by inviting them as special guests on August 15 at the Red Fort. Before the contingent left for Tokyo, Modi had also interacted with the Indian athletes and motivated them to give their best at Tokyo Olympics 2020. During the interaction, Modi had promised star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu that he will have ice cream with her once she returns from Tokyo.

And the promise was fulfilled as an image surfaced online where the PM was seen having ice cream with Sindhu – who bagged a bronze medal at Tokyo as India produced its best-ever show at an Olympic event.

With her bronze medal in Tokyo, Sindhu has become India’s first female athlete to win two medals at the showpiece event. She defeated China’s He Bing Jiao in the bronze medal match at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Sindhu had won her first Olympic medal at Rio Olympics 2016 – where she bagged a historic silver medal.

Earlier, speaking to Times Now Navbharat’s Editor-in-chief Navika Kumar, Sindhu said women’s athletes were making a huge impact in the country in different sports.

“Ladki log bahut acha kiya hai. Last Olympics mein bhi acha kiya tha aur iss Olympics mein hi….Ladkiyan sirf sports mein hi nai, har chiz mein acha kar rahe hain (Girls have done the nation proud. Not only in this Olympics but in the previous Olympics as well. Women of the country are doing well everywhere, not just in sports)….They’ve shown us that ‘we can prove and we can believe anything’.

On Saturday, the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind hosted a ‘High Tea’ for the Indian Contingent of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre. The Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu also graced the occasion

On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, thirty-two Olympic winners, including javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, India’s first-ever Gold Medallist in track and field, Sindhu, Mirabai Chanu along with two officials of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) attended the 75th Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort on Sunday.
