Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Japan at the invitation of his counterpart, Shigeru Ishiba, to attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit. The visit has been deemed an opportunity to advance India’s national interest; PM Modi said it will strengthen regional and global peace and security.

Commencing his first day in Japan in seven years, PM Modi also met members of the Indian community who had been waiting for his arrival in Tokyo. The PM was deeply touched by the warmth he received and heaped praise on the Indians. Members of the Indian Diaspora had gathered to welcome him, and Japanese artists performed various cultural performances for the occasion.

In a recent update, the Prime Minister said “Namaskar, Konnichiwa” as he began his address at the India-Japan Economic Forum in Tokyo.

Addressing the conference, PM Modi said that “Japan has always been an important partner in India’s development journey. From metro rail to manufacturing, semiconductors to startups…Japanese companies have invested over $40 billion in India…”

Prime Minister Modi further went on to iterate about the political stability as well as the economic stability that India has; he further said that India is one of the fastest-growing economy in the world. He assured great prospects to the foreign dignitaries by ensuring that India is soon going to become the third-largest economy in the world.

Addressing the conference, PM Modi further detailed how India and Japan have signed an agreement on a joint credit mechanism for cooperation on clean fuel and a green future. Beyond that, he also detailed how India has taken ambitious initiatives in AI, semiconductor manufacturing, quantum computing, biotech, and space.

PM Modi further said that India and Japan have turned shared interest into shared prosperity, and India is the springboard for Japanese business to the Global South. PM Modi further said that India and Japan will together shape the Asian century for stability and prosperity.

Ishiba said that cooperation is also underway between both countries in the Artificial Intelligence, spac,e and clean energy sectors.

“Key initiatives include promoting people-to-people exchanges, leveraging technology and markets under Prime Minister Modi’s self-reliant India policy, and collaborating in critical sectors like semiconductors and biofuels.

Efforts are also underway in AI, space, and clean energy. Both governments support these initiatives, aiming for resilient supply chains and economic security in an uncertain global economy,” he said. Ishiba further said that he wished to see growth in the cooperation and people-to-people ties. Ishiba also recounted his visit to Varanasi and praised the intermingling of technology and culture.

“I wish to see our bilateral cooperation continue to develop in the future. To achieve this, I will outline three key initiatives- promotion of people-to-people exchanges. Six years ago, I visited Varanasi and met some really hardworking people there… I was overwhelmed by India’s energy for growth. The fusion of technology and the market is the second initiative. Many Japanese companies are working together on the construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail… Maruti Suzuki which entered India 40 years ago, now commands a significant market share,” he said- With Inputs From ANI.
