PDP Protest Against Waqf Bill Disrupted By Police Action In Srinagar

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faced a setback on Friday as police thwarted their planned protest march against the recently enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. The authorities barricaded the party headquarters near Sher-e-Kashmir Park, Srinagar effectively restricting protestors to the premises.

Demonstrators, armed with placards that read “We reject the Waqf Bill” and “NC’s silence is criminal,” raised their voices in unison, calling for the repeal of the controversial legislation. Despite their efforts to organize a peaceful protest, the gathering was curtailed by police intervention, leading to a swift dispersal of the crowd.

PDP General Secretary Khurshid Alam addressed reporters following the protest, expressing disappointment over the police action. “Our intention was to peacefully express our dissent against the Waqf Bill. This bill has not found acceptance among any section of society, particularly due to the manner in which it was rushed through Parliament during the night,” he stated.

Alam did not shy away from criticizing the National Conference (NC), accusing the party of failing to take a stand on the issue. “While we condemn the BJP’s approach towards Muslims, the NC’s silence on this matter is equally troubling. They are merely deceiving the people,” he asserted.
