Patiala House Court Extends Judicial Custody Of 26/11 Accused Tahawwur Rana, Next Hearing On July 9

Delhi’s Patiala House Court has extended the judicial custody of 26/11 mastermind Tahawwur Rana. He will be produced in court next in July 9. It is important to note that Rana was presented before the court via a virtual mode due to security concerns. During the proceedings, his counsel raised concerns regarding his health. Noting the submissions, the court has directed Tihar authorities to submit a status report on the matter by June 9.

The Delhi Court, on June 4, had scheduled a hearing for June 9 to consider a plea filed by Rana, requesting permission to communicate with his family while in judicial custody. The Court sought a response from Tihar Jail authorities regarding Tahawwur Rana’s plea on May 28. Rana was remanded to judicial custody until June 6 by the Delhi court on May 9.

Notably, on May 1, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was permitted by the court to collect voice and handwriting samples of Rana. The court approved NIA’s application, enabling further forensic examination as part of the agency’s ongoing investigation into Rana’s role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

The 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, was extradited from the United States on April 10, 2025. He was extradited to India after the US Supreme Court rejected his review petition against extradition.
