Pakistan’s Intelligence Alerts Of Plot To Kidnap Foreign Guests at Champions Trophy 2025: Report

The Pakistani Intelligence Bureau (IB) issued a high alert regarding a suspected terror plot by Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ISIS and other Balochistan-based groups during Champions Trophy 2025 in the country. The terror outfits may attempt to kidnap the foreign guests who are present in the country to watch the tournament.

According to a CNN-News 18 report, the bureau has cautioned that these groups are plotting to target the foreign guests. All countries in the tournament are playing in Pakistan, except India which is playing all its matches in Dubai.

Security is a big challenge for Pakistan as the latter claimed a high-layered security arrangement for the players. In 2009, terrorists had targeted the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore after which security preparedness had become a key concern.

According to Pakistani media reports, as many as 12,000 security personnel will be deployed during matches in Lahore and Rawalpindi.  The PCB has also arranged charter flights for supporters and players.

Meanwhile, Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja questioned why Pakistan began its campaign against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, rather than Bangladesh after India humbled Pakistan in a high-voltage clash in Dubai.

Following Pakistan’s heavy defeat against India, which jeopardised their title defence, Ramiz questioned the team’s strategy. “I wonder why Pakistan played their first match against New Zealand. They should have played their first match against Bangladesh. Even though Bangladesh is a strong side, it was still comparatively an easy match for them,” Ramiz said on his YouTube channel.
