Pakistan, Russia To Collaborate On Rail And Road Network To Boost Regional Connectivity

It seems that Pakistan and Russia are inching closer, as the two nations have agreed to join hands to establish a rail and road network in an attempt to connect the South Asian country with Central Asia and Russia.

Leaders meet at SCO Summit

According to PTI, the leaders of both countries met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) ministerial conference in Tianjin, China. Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, and Russia’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Andrey Sergeyevich Nikitin, agreed to engage swiftly on infrastructure projects to integrate trade and economic activities in the region.

Move aims to transform Pakistan

A Pakistan-based news channel claimed that these steps aim to enhance trade corridors and logistical routes extending to Russia and Central Asia by transforming Pakistan into a regional connectivity hub.

In March this year, Pakistan and Russia held a joint naval exercise in the North Arabian Sea. The exercise was named ‘Arabian Monsoon-VI’.

‘Taliban’s repeated violations of Doha Agreement fueling regional instability’

On the other hand, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, has warned that Kabul’s repeated violations of the Doha Agreement are threatening regional stability and undermining efforts to combat terrorism, Khaama Press reported.

Speaking at a seminar in Islamabad titled “Pakistan: A Barrier Against Terrorism,” Bhutto stated that terrorism is not just a local issue but a global threat. He claimed that Pakistan has sacrificed heavily–both in human lives and economically–in its ongoing struggle against terrorism.

Bhutto addressed the Taliban leadership

Building on this concern, Bhutto directly addressed the Taliban leadership, urging them to remain faithful to the pledges made in the Doha Accord. He stressed that such commitment could prevent further destabilization and promote regional trust, according to Khaama Press.
