Pak Defence Minister Khawaja Asif Says Shimla Agreement Is A ‘Dead Document, LoC Now A Ceasefire Line’

Pakistan’s defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that the ‘Shimla Agreement’ is a “dead document”  and the 1972 pact between the two nations has “completely ended.”

‘LoC Is Now Ceasefire Line’

While speaking to a Pakistani news channel, Asif said Pakistan has returned to the position of 1948, where the United Nations designated the Line of Control (LoC) as the Ceasefire Line. Asif said that after making the pact null and void, Pakistan now has the liberty to raise the issue on any international and multilateral forum, and the nation is not bound to resolve it through bilateral talks.

‘Situation of war is still looming’

He also made comments on the security of regional security, stating that the situation of war is still looming. “Pakistan does not want war, but if it is imposed on us, the response will be even stronger than before,” the defence minister said.

Asif praised its Army and said that they have emerged stronger in comparison to the previous wars with India.

‘We’ve Cut All Ties with Terrorism‘

Last Month, Pakistan defence minister Khwaja Asif admitted that the relatives of terrorists might be living in Pakistan, but refused to accept any ties with the terrorists. Asif said, “We have cut ties with terrorism.”

He asserted, said, “The international community should probe the matter as we do not want to investigate ourselves. Pakistan has no links with the terror organisations that India refers to. We have cut all ties with terrorism. Their relatives might be living here but they are as much a threat to us as they are to the rest of the world.”

‘Pakistan has been funding and backing terror groups’

Khawaja Asif also admitted by stating that Pakistan has been funding and backing terror groups in a viral video clip. In a video clip that has now gone viral, Pakistan’s defence minister was in conversation with Sky News’s Yalda Hakim, when she asks him, “But you do admit, you do admit, sir, that Pakistan has had a long history of backing and supporting and training and funding these terrorist organisations?”

‘We have been doing this dirty work for the United States’

In response, Asif said, “We have been doing this dirty work for the United States for about 3 decades… and the west, including Britain…That was a mistake, and we suffered for that, and that is why you are saying this to me. If we had not joined the war against the Soviet Union and later on the war after 9/11, Pakistan’s track record was unimpeachable.” Asif’s statement lays bare the fact that Pakistan, for many years, has been harbouring these terror groups.
