Pahalgam Terror Attack: Shahid Afridi Again Stirs Controversy Amid India-Pakistan Tension

The attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir didn’t just shook India but also the world. Following this inhumune attack, cricketers from both countries are expressing their views. Amid rising tensions between two arch-rival nations, former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi yet again made a shocking claim against India which triggered anger to many Indians.

What Afridi told to media

When a journalist asked about the incident, Afridi responded “The terrorists kept killing people in Pahalgam for an hour and not a single Indian soldier out of 8 lakh came. But when they came, they blamed Pakistan. India itself promotes terrorism. Kills its own people and then blames Pakistan. No country or religion supports terrorism. We always support peace. Islam teaches us peace and Pakistan never supports such acts. We have always tried to improve our relations with India.’

‘Sports Diplomacy Is The Best’

Afridi further said, ‘Pakistan is our religion, Islam talks about peace. We have been trying to build good relations with India. We always got threats from there. We did not even know whether we would go there to play or not. I was the captain in the 2016 World Cup. We were in Lahore and did not know whether we would have a flight to India or not. That is why I say that sports diplomacy is the best. Your kabaddi team comes, but the cricket team does not come. If you want to do it, then stop it completely or else don’t do it.’

Shahid Afridi’s Career Stats

Afridi’s impressive career stats include 398 ODI matches with 372 innings, scoring 17,670 runs, and taking 395 wickets with the best figures of 7/12. His T20I stats comprise 99 matches, 97 innings, accumulating 2,168 runs, and securing 98 wickets with a best of 4/11.

Afridi’s all-round contributions made him a significant figure in cricket, known for his aggressive batting and effective leg-spin bowling.
