Padmini Kolhapure reveals she had to slap Rishi Kapoor 7-8 times to ace Prem Rog’s popular scene

When we look back at some of the most beautifully shot films in the history of Indian cinema, a particular scene from Prem Rog will always find a place. The 1982 film directed by Raj Kapoor tells a beautiful story of a man’s love towards a woman who is a widow and what happens next forms the crux of this emotional roller-coaster.

But one vital scene from the film that continues to be the highlight of the film, when Padmini Kolhapure had to slap Rishi Kapoor. In an exclusive interaction with Times Now Digital, Kolhapure went on to take a trip down memory lane to remember that scene and share what really went behind the making of it.

“Slapping scene wow, I know. I had to slap Chintoo and of course what normally happens in an action na, and they synchronise the slap with the action. But Raj uncle didn’t want that, he wanted me to slap him, and then he told ‘Nahi Nahi tum thappad maro, I want that realistic kind of shot.’ (Translation: No no you slap him) Then Chintu told me, ‘you go ahead amd slap me'”

“The first take, my hand would just start with that swing and slow down near that cheek. But then Raj uncle would say, ‘no, I don’t want such a soft slap.’ And that shot we had to take some 7-8 re-takes. Something kept going wrong, either it was a camera issue, light issue, technical issue and I had to slap him 7-8 times. Now coming to think of it, I don’t know what would’ve happened if I had to get so many slaps,” she further elaborated.

Sharing an interesting anecdote, the actress then shared that Rishi had told her he will eventually take revenge. And pointing out the irony, the actress went on to elaborate that in the film Rahi Badal Gaye when he had to slap her. But instead of taking any revenge, the actress revealed that it was shot in one take.

In Prem Rog, Kolhapure beautifully grooved to hit song Yeh Galiyan Yeh Chaubara. And after all these years, the actress has gone on to recreate the song, not just starring in the video but also singing to it. Not only has the song clocked over a million views but has received only positive reviews from fans. Speaking about recreating the song, Kolhapure went on to say that in Prem Rog, the song was filmed with the bride’s perspective and now, the song has been shot from the mother-of-the bride’s perspective.
