In an unprecedented operation launched under Kavach 6.0, the Delhi Police conducted a raid at 874 different spots in 15 districts of Delhi. This massive operation resulted in nabbing 140 narcotics offenders besides registering 139 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, said Additional CP Crime Sanjay Bhatia.
Approximate 870.1 grams of heroin 193.8 kg of ganja, 16.1 grams of cocaine and 404 grams of MDMA have been seized by the Delhi Police, Additional CP Crime Sanjay Bhatia confirmed. Additionally, Rs 34, 420 in cash, one 20 grams gold chain, one motorcycle, one tempo and one scooter have also been seized.
The operation also involved dealing with bootlegging resulting in the registration of 203 cases under the Delhi Excise Act. Police apprehended 202, 244 cans of beer, 29.942 quarters, and 198.75 litres of illicit liquor.
Besides the NDPS and excise law violations, 14 suspects were apprehended for arms offences, seizing six country-made pistols, nine live cartridges and eight knives. The police also placed another 1,224 individuals in preventive custody for the sake of the protection of the community.
Operation Kavach was launched in Delhi in May 2023 to focus on identifying and apprehending individuals involved in the trafficking and distribution of narcotics. During this operation, it was decided to target both street-level dealers and high-level traffickers and to have both a top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top approach to effectively counter drug trafficking.
After 2024 Delhi police have been able to apprehend 961 narcotic offenders in 695 NDPS cases. This year alone, authorities have seized a wide range of drugs, including approximately heroin about 65 kgs, cocaine 1.9 kgs, ganja of more than 2258 kgs, opium 102 kgs, charas of 42.6 kgs, poppy heads 73 kgs and others.
