Speaking with the media after political campaigns, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah seems positive about translating the crowd that joined him in rallies, campaigns and roadshows into voters for the National Conference in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

Footfall beyond expectations: Omar

The footfall in campaigns and roadshows was beyond our expectations and we hope when voting takes place on Wednesday (September 18), NC will be given a good share of votes and we will be successful.

On asked if he finds this assembly election different, Omar said, “On what grounds is it not different? This is the first election as a union territory. This is the first election when Ladakh has been excluded. This poll is the first after the betrayal that we came across on August 5, 2019. Those parties are also contesting this time that kept themselves restrained for the last 30-35 years. “

Omar Abdullah hits out at Engineer Rashid

Speaking on the involvement of Engineer Rashid in the assembly polls, he again hinted at his alleged alignment towards the BJP. The NC leader said, “His chords are attached somewhere else. He gets all commands from there and dances to their tune. He keeps attacking the National Conference and it’s obvious that he has been fielded against the NC.” (“taar inki kahin aur judi hui hai, ishara inko kahin aur see aata hai…”, said Abdullah)

“Let the BJP win a single seat”

Labelling the people coming to the Prime Minister’s rally as bought people, Omar said that it’s not difficult getting 30 thousand or more people in Srinagar by spending money. PM Modi in his previous rally also collected government officials at his rally to show the strength. “Don’t show me rallies, show me votes. Let the BJP win a single seat in the Kashmir Valley, then we will talk”, said the former Chief Minister.

“Any party can have a successful rally after spending some money and collecting the daily wagers for their campaigns and roadshows but these people don’t translate to votes”, he further added.

The BJP that speaks on dynasty rule in Kashmir has actually nothing else to talk about in the Valley. If they had done anything good, they would have come up with their mark sheet to seek votes said Abdullah while adding that the saffron brigade won’t get even thirty thousand votes.

Jammu and Kashmir is set to cast its votes in three phases and the results are to be announced on October 8.
