Sri-Lanka has had a strong start during the third ODI Against New Zealand at Eden Park, Auckland. Kusal Mendis came as the replacement batter for Pathum Nissanka when during the ninth over after completing his half-century, he had a groin while completing a single. Mendis completed his half century in the 43 deliveries providing stability to the Sri-Lankan side. Although Mendis later got out in 27th over on 58 runs.

That was the wicket for Santner – pushed through just outside off and Kusal Mendis couldn’t get the sweep under control, was undone by the extra bounce, a massive top-edge and Bracewll circled around it at mid-wicket. He’s always a safe catcher and makes this one look easy as well. The dangerous Mendis fell and Sri Lanka lost their second wicket.

Mendis Test Record

In Tests, Mendis has played 69 matches with 129 innings, accumulating 4,478 runs at an average of 36.11. His highest score of 245 demonstrates his ability to play long, substantial innings in the longest format. He has scored 10 centuries and 19 fifties in Tests, with 543 fours and 47 sixes, showcasing his range of shots. His strike rate of 57.91 in Tests reflects his measured approach in red-ball cricket.

ODI Record

In ODIs, Mendis has been equally impactful, featuring in 140 matches with 137 innings, scoring 4,255 runs at an average of 34.04. His highest ODI score stands at 143, and he has notched up 4 centuries and 32 fifties in this format. His ODI strike rate of 86.90, along with 267 fours and 93 sixes, indicates his ability to accelerate when needed. Additionally, his wicketkeeping skills are evident from his combined dismissals across formats, with 103 catches and 2 stumpings in Tests, and 31 catches and 12 stumpings in ODIs.
