Not Dhoni review system anymore: Sunil Gavaskar lavishes praise on Rohit Sharma for DRS usage in 1st ODI vs WI

Coming into his first game as full-time captain of the Indian cricket team in the ODI format, Rohit Sharma could not have hoped for a better start. The Men in Blue are on course for an emphatic victory over West Indies at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Since the toss, everything has gone Rohit’s way as India have given West Indies no time to settle into the game or build any momentum at all. After India decided to bowl first, they restricted the visitors to a score of just 176. Yuzvendra Chahal was the star of the show with a four-wicket haul while Washington Sundar made a remarkable comeback to international and took three wickets.

While the Indian bowlers were nothing short of brilliant, they required a lot of help of the Decision Review System (DRS). In fact, Rohit ended up reviewing three decisions after the on-field umpire gave it not-out and all three times the decision was overturned.

The first occasion it happened was after Washington Sundar trapped Darren Bravo in front of the stumps. Shortly after that, Yuzvendra Chahal appealed for an LBW against Nicolas Pooran. Later, Chahal got an edge off Shamarh Brooks but was given not-out on the field.

Legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar lavished praise on Rohit for his excellent usage of DRS and named it ‘Definitely Rohit System.’ Talking on commentary for Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “Rohit Sharma got those reviews spot on. Earlier when Dhoni used to get more right than wrong, it was called as Dhoni Review System. Now you can term it as ‘Definitely Rohit System’.”

It was Brook’s dismissal that went viral on social media as stump-mic showedeEx-captain Virat Kohli convincing Rohit that there was an edge and he should refer it. The Men in Blue are on brink of victory after the Indian captain gave the Men in Blue a stunning start with a quick-fire 50.
