Not a spoiler: Rajasthan Royals make Spider-Man meme after Jos Buttler’s stunning catch in 2nd Ashes Test

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have won the internet on Thursday with a Spider-Man-based meme for England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler after his stunning catch on the first day of the second Ashes Test. Buttler’s spectacular effort helped England dismiss Marcus Harris of Stuart Broad’s bowling in the first session of play at Adelaide.

Harris attempted to pull a delivery from Broad and it looked all set to reach the fine-leg boundary on the leg-side. However, Buttler had other ideas as he caught the ball to send the Australian opener back to the dressing room with a full-stretched dive.

Buttler’s spectacular effort earned the praise of the cricket fraternity with many describing it as one of the best catches of the year. Among those to react to the dismissal were Buttler’s Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals.

The Royals posted a meme based on the popular Marvel Super Hero character Spiderman. They captioned the tweet, “This is not a #SpidermanNoWayHome spoiler.  This is just Jos Buttler.” The latest movie of the Spider-Man franchise ‘Spider-Man No Way Home’ released in India on Thursday (December 16).

Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, Buttler is one of the three players that RR have retained going into the new season. Along with him, skipper Sanju Samson and uncapped youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal will also stay at RR for the new season.

Buttler has been an integral member of RR since 2018 when he was purchased by the franchise in the auction. However, his England teammates Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer have not been retained by the 2008 Champions.

After winning the toss and batting first, Australia have made a solid start to proceedings despite losing Harris’s wicket early in the day. After 30 overs on the first day, Australia are 55-1 with Marcus Labuschange and David Warner giving the hosts a steady foundation.

The hosts were hit by a big blow on the morning of the match as skipper Pat Cummins was ruled out of the game after coming in close contact with a COVID +ve individual. Due to Cummins’ absence, Steve Smith is leading the team after more than three years in a Test match.
