Nobody Would Believe! Time When Virat Kohli Had More Centuries Than Half Centuries In Tests

As the India-England Test series approaches, spectators are eager to witness the clash between the two powerhouses of cricket. Young Shubman Gill is set to lead the team with little prior experience in captaincy. The Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, formerly known as the Pataudi Trophy, will kick things off from June 20 and conclude a 5-match series to determine the winner. The experience and expertise of former captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be missed. Kohli has an excellent record in Test cricket by smashing 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries with an average of 55.57. But there was a time when Virat’s greatness was witnessed when he surpassed his half-century record and smashed more centuries than half-centuries in Tests.

Virat Kohli in 2019

In the 2019 Test series vs South Africa, it was witnessed that Virat Kohli, while playing his 84th Test match, has 26 centuries and 22 half-centuries. This was the time when Virat Kohli had already displayed his prowess as a batter who can deliver you the desired results across any format of the game and can switch gears. By 2019, Kohli had already gathered over 7,000 runs and was playing with an average of over 54. India hosted the 3-match Test series against South Africa and claimed a dominating victory over the visitors by 3-0.

Kohli Still Not on Top

Surprisingly, Kohli still doesn’t have the most Test centuries for India. Sachin Tendulkar stands tall on the podium with 51 centuries, followed by Rahul Dravid (36) and Sunil Gavaskar (34). Virat finds the 4th spot in the maximum Test centuries for India. Although among all four cricket legends, Virat’s average has been surpassing everyone other’s. With an average of over 55, Virat displayed that in any format of the game, he’s here to dominate.

Test Career

Kohli announced his Test retirement on May 12, with an electrifying record in the longest format of the game. Virat Kohli has had an outstanding Test career, scoring 9,230 runs in 123 matches at an average of 46.85. With 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, he has been a consistent performer in the longest format. His highest score of 254* highlights his ability to play long, match-defining innings. Kohli’s strike rate of 55.57 also reflects his positive intent, making him one of the most impactful Test batters of his generation.
